A cuttng-edge new sports center in Carson that offers various amenities for youth and adults will open for public use next week.
Galaxy Park, located on the campus of Dignity Health Sports Park, will be fully accessible for the public starting next Thursday, June 22. A ribbon cutting ceremony is slated for 5:30 pm on Wednesday, June 21.
Guests to the ceremony included: Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes, former professional soccer player Cobi Jones, Deborah Wallace, vice president of administration and finance at California State University Dominguez Hills, and Dignity Health Sports Park General Manager Katie Pandolfo, among others.
The ceremony will be followed by a match between LA Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City at 7:30 pm in the soccer stadium.
“This really integrated campus that we have built (in the) community brings people together in a way that really doesn’t exist anywhere else in the region,” said Pandolfo.
The complex offers youth a safe environment to play sports and build their leadership skills. At the same time, it provides adults a fun setting to engage in a variety of recreational activities, she said.
Galaxy Park is completed with five 5v5 soccer fields, three futsal courts, eight pickleball courts and four padel courts. It has the ability to host large-scale tournaments and its court spaces alone can accommodate thousands of people, Pandolfo said. Depending on the activities, 10-12 people can fit into a court at the same time.
“We’ll be hosting events and birthday parties, and everything that you can do in this public space, we are going to have available,” she added.
Galaxy Park is a part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the opening of Dignity Health Sports Park. The 125-acre site, which sits on the California State University Dominguez Hills campus in Carson, is home to Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy.
