They were there for you in the ’90s, six young friends living the life you envied in cool New York City apartments, and now you and your friends can walk in their footsteps and take the pics to prove it.
After touring the country “The Friends Experience: The One Near Long Beach,” a 20,000-square-foot immersive pop-up experience that will recreate the set and take people inside the hit NBC show, is opening June 23 at the Lakewood Center.
“It’s the opportunity to step inside the world of ‘Friends.’ We really wanted it to feel like you could walk on the set and have the same experience the cast would have during an episode,” said Stacy Moscatelli, president and chief strategy officer for Original X Productions, the company behind the experience, which runs through Sept. 17.
The pop-up first launched in 2019 in New York to mark the show’s 25th anniversary. It has since traveled to nearly a dozen cities throughout the nation before making its Los Angeles area debut this month.
“Most fans never have the opportunity to feel like they’re on the set. They’re experiencing the show through a screen. So for us it’s come in, sit on the coach, open up the cabinets, come into Monica’s kitchen,” she said.
Get your phone camera’s ready for lots of pics because here is what you’ll see at “The Friends Experience.”
“I’ll Be There For You”
With The Rembrandts’ “I’ll Be There for You,” playing in the background, the opening credits for the show became iconic thanks to the fountain scene where Chandler, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, Ross and Monica danced around an orange couch and eventually ended up in a fountain. Of course, that’s where the pop-up experience starts with the legendary couch, the lamp, the fountain and the famous song playing. Go ahead, sit down with your friends and take a picture and do that Ross slow-mo dance, just don’t jump in the fountain please.
