Singer-songwriter Neil Young announced a limited run of West Coast show dates that kick off on July 1 at John Anson Ford Theatre in Los Angeles.
He’ll be taking up residency at that intimate 1,200-seat venue and will continue his stay there on July 2, 4 and 5. The jaunt also hits the Santa Barbara Bowl on July 7; Vina Robles Amphitheatre on July 8; The Shell in San Diego on July 11; the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on July 13; and The Greek at Berkeley on July 15.
Pasadena singer-songwriter Chris Pierce will open the shows.
Tickets to all show dates go on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 14 at Ticketmaster.com.
This outing will be Young’s first in four years and will explore some of the more obscure songs within his catalog. The two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee announced during a live chat on the Neil Young Archives earlier this week that he didn’t just want to play the “same songs again.”
“I’d rather be doing these other songs I haven’t done … I won’t have to compare how I’m doing ‘Heart of Gold’ to (how I played it) in 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010, 2020…,” he said.
While he said he’d still play some hits, he revealed he would play deeper cuts like “If You Got Love,” “Prime of Life,” “Sleeps with Angels” and “Song X,” the latter of which comes from his 1995 “Mirror Ball” collaboration with Pearl Jam.
