The Ebell Club of Canyon Hills presented checks to representatives of its philanthropic recipients during its April general meeting.
First Vice President, Philanthropy Barbara Shaia introduced Lauren Williamson, a representative from the Parkinson’s Foundation and the club’s major philanthropy, who shared how the donation will enhance Parkinson’s research, care and resources in its efforts to find a cure as every 6 minutes someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
Shaia also introduced Yves and Jody Masquefa representing Kherut, the nonprofit organization they founded. They briefly spoke about how the Ebell donation will help their efforts to empower survivors of sex trafficking, domestic violence and sexual abuse who have aged out of the foster care system.
Kherut, which means safety and well-being in Hebrew, is an organization that teaches life skills and job training, enabling survivors to gain the knowledge needed to lead productive, independent lives. The Masquefas, former owners of Yves Bistro, offer hands-on, paid training and knowledge of the food industry, through event planning and catering opportunities throughout Orange County.
In addition to check donations, members also brought clothing and other items to support the Orange County Social Services’ Christmas in July event for teens in need.
Fourth Vice President, Programs Linda Lewis introduced special guest Sandy Tessier, Orange District president who shared important Orange District news including a new project focused on helping victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. She and Orange District First Vice President Colleen Janssen, also in attendance, were encouraging all clubs within the district to participate.
