A 47-year-old man has been charged in a Newport Beach hit-and-run that left a motorcyclist with significant injuries last July, police said.
Nery Lopez, a resident of Cudahy in Los Angeles County, was arraigned Tuesday on several charges, including felony hit-and-run with injury and felony DUI, according to a news release from the Newport Beach Police Department. He pleaded not guilty on all counts.
The July 30, 2022 crash involving a silver Jeep happened at 26th Street and W. Balboa Boulevard, police said. Lopez allegedly hit both the motorcyclist and several parked vehicles before fleeing on foot.
It was not immediately clear what the victim’s current condition is, but police said the victim is aware of Lopez’s arrest. No further details about the victim, including their age and sex, were immediately available.
As of Wednesday evening, Lopez was being held at the Theo Lacy Facility in lieu of $100,000 in bail, according to jail records. He is next due in court April 26.
