At least five homes in the Skyline housing development in Santa Clarita were under evacuation orders on Monday, Feb. 6, following a landslide that sent some backyard retaining walls tumbling down a hillside.
Part of the hill behind the homes gave way, sending dirt and boulders to the street below, buckling the sidewalk — and bringing pieces of concrete with it. The landslide also damaged the backyards of the homes on Plume Way, part of a new housing development with homes priced from the low $700,000s to the low millions.
The cause of the landslide has not been determined yet, according to a worker at the scene who declined to give his name.
City inspectors were assessing the damage Monday. At least five homes were yellow-tagged, allowing only limited access for residents to retrieve their belongings. The landslide was reported Sunday. There were no reports of any injuries.
It was unclear when the residents would be able to return to their homes.
