Santa Ana police were asking for the public’s help in identifying two men, one of whom was seen on a door camera stealing a family’s African Gray Parrot off the front porch of their home earlier this month.
Police Thursday posted video on social media showing a man wearing a charcoal gray hoodie, gray gloves and light gray sweat pants grabbing a large cage with the bird in it and backing off the porch before taking it to a nearby red Ford Excursion SUV.
The theft occurred about 1 p.m., March 12, but police did not give a location.
The bird was valued at about $2,500, police said.
The suspect who took the cage was believed to be possibly in his 40s, police said. A second suspect, the suspected getaway driver, was described as a man possibly wearing a tan bucket hat, a black hoodie and dark colored pants.
The crime occurred nine days before thieves stole three birds from a Lawndale bird shop, two of which were valued at about $6,000 each, March 21. It was unknown if the two crimes were believed to be related.
Anyone with information on the Santa Ana theft was asked to call Detective A. Castro at 714-245-8345.
