For one day only, art fans will be able to buy original pieces from artists whose day jobs include working for major studios like Disney, Universal Studios and Warner Bros.
The annual Arts for LA Pop–Up Art Show will take place at Art Share L.A. near downtown Los Angeles from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, March 25.
The show, dubbed “The Themed Park Entertainment Pop-Up Show,” which is a fundraiser for Arts for LA, a nonprofit arts advocacy group that works to gain public funding for arts and culture as well as increase arts education in public schools, is made up of more than 100 original pieces from more than a dozen artists working in the entertainment industry.
“What’s cool about this is that these works have never been seen before, so we’re really excited about the public seeing them for the first time,” said Gustavo Herrera, CEO for Arts for LA.
The works include paintings, sculptures, mixed media, digital and other artforms.
“All of these folks come from theme park entertainment work and they’ve worked on different projects both locally and across the country. For most of them, that is their primary form of work,” he said.
Some of the artists taking part in the pop-up include Gwendolyn Ballantyne, a fine artist based in Los Angeles who focuses on contemporary realism with bold color drawings. She has worked for the Walt Disney Company, Universal Studios, Warner Bros. Henson Studios and Cirque Du Soleil.
Joining her in the exhibition is Andy Sklar, who started his career as a concept designer for Walt Disney Imagineering and Universal Studios.
Many of these pieces, which are also available for purchase, could be future collectors items.
“This, for us, is an opportunity to celebrate these talented artists, who often times do not have their work featured in an exhibition like this,” Herrera added.
